Dag/Day 1 - Aankomst van de ploegen - Arrival of the teams

Aankomst en Receptie - Arrival and Reception at the Cityhall
Alle aanwezige ploegen werden uitgenodigd op de receptie welke door de Stad Leuven wordt aangeboden. Na de openingstoespraak van Eugene Johnstone, organisator van het tornooi, volgde een sportief getinte toespraak van Herwig Beckers, schepen van de Stad Leuven die het belang onderstreepte van kwalitatieve sportopleidingen met het opbouwen van ervaring en de opleiding van de baskettende jeugd in het bijzonder. Schepen Herwig Beckers heette vervolgens alle deelnemers en organisatoren in naam van de Stad welkom en schetste het belang van de Internationale samenwerking op cultureel en sportief vlak.

All teams present were invited to the reception offered by the City of Leuven. After the opening comments by Eugene Johnstone, organisor of this tournament, Herwig Beckers, member of the City Council elaborated on the importance of high quality sportseducation to allow the youth teams to gain experience, yet an important factor in the education of the basket loving youth. Herwig Beckers, extended his welcome to the teams and members of the organisation and underlined the growing importance of continued International cooperation on the broader cultural and sportive scale.

Na de receptie kon iedereen een lichte maaltijd genieten om nadien het tornooi van start te laten gaan met de 2 eerste wedstrijden.

After the reception everyone could enjoy a light tastefull meal before we started the first two games.

Game 1 - 1e wedstrijd - 19u15
Plymouth Marjon Raiders (UK) - Stella Artois Leuven Bears (B)

Het is kwart voor zeven en de teams warmen op. Van bij het begin gaat Leuven heel sterk over Plymouth met een 0-6. De trend zet zich voort en er wordt vlot gescoord. Bijzonder fraaie partij zonder zware fouten. Leuven is duidelijk te sterk voor de tegenstander en naarmate de wedstrijd vordert wordt het een 'walk-over'.

Commentaar van Thomas Creppy (A-team) - Leuven is een klasse sterker, speelt zeer gestructureerd met een echt Team op het veld. Opvallende 'shooters' en uitstekende 'grote jongens'

Commentaar van Don Adams (assistant coach) - zeer intense wedstrijd waar we in Engeland niet gewoon aan zijn. Er wordt constant druk op de bal gezet en zelfs als we de speler stoppen wordt er nog makkelijk gescoord. Voor ons team een zeer nuttige ervaring !

It is getting closer to the start of the game @ 7:15pm. Both teams are doing their 'warm-up' exercises. From the start Leuven is easily going over Plymouth placing a 0-6 in the first minute. This trend continues and scoring goes easy. Very nice match without many fauls. Leuven is the stronger team and while the game continues it rolls into a 'walk-over'.

Comments from Thomas Creppy (A-Team) - there is a difference in level of the teams, to the advantage of Leuven. They play very structured with good 'shooters' and strong 'tall guys'

Comments from Don Adams (assistant coach) - very intense game where Leuven maintains pressure on the ball at all times. We are not used to this in England. Even when we manage to stop the player, they still score too easily. Very nice experience for our team.

Reeds van bij het begin komt Mons-Hainaut erg sterk uit de hoek en overklast Soleuvre. Half wedstrijd loopt het verschil op tot 20 punt. De druk van Mons blijft aanhouden en vertaald zich in een overwinning met meer dan 40 punten.
From the very beginning the team from Mons-Hainaut appears to be much stronger than Soleuvre. Half game the difference runs up to 20 points. The pressure applied by Mons continues and results in a gain with over 40 points.
